Which tennis ball is best for you?

Tennis balls can be classified based on different criteria, of which the ball speed is the most important. In this article, we’ll focus on ball speed. Later, we’ll discuss other factors. Tennis balls are available in three different speeds:
The Slower or Third Type.
Balls that are larger in diameter (7-7.3 cm or 2.76-2.87 inches) and better suited to players who play slowly. In addition, fast courts are slowed down by these balls.
Type 2 is the medium level.
The majority of ball speeds fall into this category. The majority of players find it useful in most situations. Slow balls of 65-68 centimeters (2.5-7 inches) distance are larger than balls of this size.
The Fast or Type 1 version.
It is rare to see these balls in competition. Tennis balls with a fast bounce are typically used on clay courts with a slow bounce. Similar in size to medium balls.
The competition used to be limited to medium-speed balls before recent regulation changes. By allowing fast and slow balls on different courts, the ITF sought to ensure a level playing field.
Pressureless VS Pressurized:
It is also possible to purchase pressure less or pressurized tennis balls. The most commonly used tennis ball in competition is pressurized. A new such ball will bounce higher and stiffer than a brand new pressureless ball.
Although pressure less balls live longer than pressured balls, they are less efficient over the long term. Pressurized balls bounce higher, but they last longer at a steady level than pressureless balls. Casual and recreational players are attracted to these games because of their cost-effectiveness.
Heavy vs. regular:
Tennis balls are covered with an outer felt layer that protects the inside. The external felts are divided into two groups: regular and heavy-duty. They are designed to be used on clay courts with softer surfaces. Tennis balls like these are sometimes referred to as softcore tennis balls.
These balls feature a more dense felt cover which prevents the clay from absorbing into the ball, as well as making it slower on clay courts. A tennis ball suitable for grass and hard surfaces is called an additional-duty or hardcourt ball. Its fuzzy-covered surface provides greater resilience, ensuring abrasion resistance.
The high altitude:
High altitude causes regular tennis balls to bounce higher, resulting in the ability to send long serves. It’s because higher altitudes have lower atmospheric pressure. Tennis balls specifically designed for high altitudes exist since there is a decreased pressure above 4,000 feet.
Tennis balls with the highest altitude’s compliance with ITF standard measurements are the same Table tennis ball weight, size, stability, and deformation as medium and fastballs, but their rebound is much lower.
Tennis balls must also be durable, but a ball can’t be judged until you have used it for a while. It would be best, however, to use a tennis ball in the environment that it was designed for to extend its durability.
Hard-surface courts will quickly deteriorate a regular-duty ball and it’s best to only use that type on clay courts. The ITW has established some standards for durability for tennis balls. In a durability test, the following criteria must be met by tennis balls used in competition:
- Weight changed by 0.014 ounces at most.
- There is a 1.6-inch rebound.
- 0.031 inches of deformation maximum.
- Deformation returns are limited to 0.039 inches.
